Loukoumades

(my own recipe inspired by a Greek one)
Serves 4-6 or more
Ingredients:
  • 500 ml water
  • 500 gr flour
  • 50 gr yeast
  • 3 tbsp grand marnier (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 liter sunflower oil
Garnish:
  • honey
  • cinnamon
  • nutella
Step One
Mix in a bowl the water and the yeast until it dissolves. Afterwards slowly incorporate the flour, cinnamon and optionally add the grand marnier. Cover the bowl with a wet kitchen towel and leave in a warm place for 45-60 min.
Step Two
Fill a pan (or dip-fryer if you have) with the oil and heat it well. Put the dough in the doughnut-maker like this one:
Or you can always use a teaspoon or your hand (like many Greek do). Fry them until golden brown . Serve them hot with honey and cinnamon , or nuttela.

Enjoy.

Tip 1: You can also use any  type of essence in the place of the grand marnier, or lemon/orange zest .
Tip 2: The oil must be hot (around 180 °C) when you start frying the donuts.
Tip 3 : You can always use jam or any other type of garnish, but it must be sweet and liquid because donuts themselves don't have any sugar.
